What's in our children's kit

Do not you think that the first aid kit tends to chaos? The other day, after a long time, I cleaned the family medicine cabinet and found expired medicines, remnants of medicines from old treatments, syrups without a leaflet ... in short, an outdated, useless and messy medicine cabinet.

Of course, we must not fall into self-medication, but we must have a really useful first-aid kit, especially suitable for young children.

The first thing we have to consider in order to have a proper medicine cabinet is the type of daily situations or emergencies that we face with our children: blows, cuts, burns, bites, viral diseases with or without fever, diarrhea, mucus, pain ..., so we must have the necessary elements to alleviate or alleviate these typical ailments of children. It is not appropriate for us to go to the emergency room for trifles or minor illnesses.

We must choose as a medicine cabinet a sturdy metal or plastic box, if possible with hermetic closure and that is easily transportable (we can arrange one for first aid and another for the most frequent medications).

We must place it in a safe place, out of the reach of children, away from sources of heat or humidity and periodically review the expiration of the drugs, the organization and the location of leaflets to read indications and dosage appropriate to the weight and age of the child. (don't happen to you like me)

- Dressing material: sterile gauze, physiological saline, hydrogen peroxide, antiseptic such as povidone iodine, tape, bandages, plasters (if they are with children's motives, better), scissors and tweezers

- Creams: anti-inflammatory for bumps (arnica type), antihistamine for insect bites, ointment for small burns or abrasions - Oral serums for hydration and preparations to reconstitute the intestinal flora (yeasts or lactic bacteria)

- Over-the-counter medications: antipyretics and analgesics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, in syrup or suppository.

- Others: thermometer, nasal aspirator, saline solution for nasal or ophthalmic washes.

It is also a good idea that we have a small emergency kit or bag for our trips to the park or outdoors with our little ones, surely you will use it more than once.
