Today we want to tell you the story of a real superhero, one of those who wear a cape, but who does not appear in 'The Avengers' sharing the limelight with Thor, Captain America, the Black Widow or Iron Man. Today we introduce you to Damon Cole, a policeman who dresses up as a superhero to help children with cancer.
We are going to tell you a motivating story that, as parents, will make us reflect on the important things in life; an emotional story that will allow us to teach our children the importance of being supportive and helping others, and a way of showing them that not all children are as lucky as they are.
Police Officer Damon Cole is more than just a fighter against organized crime in America. He's a real-life superhero, but his transformation didn't happen overnight.
On his bulletproof vest, he had the Superman logo sewn on. He wanted to build a trusting relationship with the children he met daily on his missions and create a greater bond with them. For that, he taught them "his secret" and asked them not to tell anyone, so he managed not to see a stranger in the agents, but rather a friend to turn to if necessary.
A few years ago, Cole began dressing up as Superman for various community events and hospital visits. So far it could be like anyone who wants to collaborate and help the most disadvantaged.
But it is that for the last three years, this police officer has spent his free time visiting cancer sick children while transforming into a superhero. "If I can make those little ones forget about having to go through a chemotherapy session for a few minutes, I'm satisfied," he explains.
Damon Cole's actions are countless. For example, in 2015 he drove 11 hours to meet a 7-year-old boy with cancer who lived in Illiniois, and he had to give up his vacation, but he did not care, the smile of this little boy was worth more. "It was a great experience to see how happy I had made him and his family, and that's when I knew I had found my calling," says Cole.
Since then, this police officer has not stopped traveling all over America. He once went to a school dressed as Iron Man to visit one of his students, imagine the commotion when he got there!
Also unforgettable was the day that he customized one of his cars in the style of the Batmobile or like Superman's Dodge Charger. And so on until he went, according to himself, to visit 20 American states and more than 1,000 children. "They are the true heroes, not me. They are the ones who fight every day to win the battle against cancer. I am very honored that they have allowed me to do this and I will always do what I can to make a child happy."
He attributes his passion for helping young children to becoming the father of a girl named Savannah. His daughter is healthy and a happy girl, and that's why Damon Cole sees it necessary bring happiness to any child, and more if the circumstances do not accompany you.
The true power of this American police officer turned superhero to help cancer sick children it is his huge heart! We need more heroes like Damon Cole in this world. "We can change the world and make it a better place to live. It is in our hands to make a difference," he concludes. What reason is he!
